Kindness Is a Choice
Natasha saw Clara sitting alone again. Some girls were whispering and giggling nearby. Natasha had not seen Clara sit with anyone the day before at camp either. Sometimes Clara made different noises, talked loudly, or ate her food in a different way. Natasha felt something warm in her heart. She remembered what she learned in Primary. Jesus wants us to be kind and loving.
Natasha walked over to Clara and said, “Hi, Clara. Do you want to sit with us?”
Clara looked surprised. “Really?”
“Yes,” Natasha said with a smile.
Clara sat with Natasha and her friends at lunch. At first, Clara was quiet. Then she began talking and laughing with everyone. Natasha noticed that her friends were kind too. They listened carefully when Clara told a story about her cat, Muffin, and asked questions about it.
Later, during activity hour, Natasha asked Clara to come swimming. Clara’s eyes grew wide. “I don’t know that game,” she said softly.
“I’ll show you,” Natasha said.
They laughed and splashed in the water. Clara taught them a new game called Splash Tag. Everyone cheered when Clara tagged someone out. They clapped when she explained the rules. Natasha felt happy. She was glad Clara was having fun.
After swimming, the girls dried off and helped clean up. Natasha noticed Clara looking at her. “Thanks for inviting me today,” Clara whispered.
“You’re welcome,” Natasha said. “I’m glad you came.”
That night at the campfire, everyone shared what they were grateful for. Clara said softly, “I am grateful for my new friends.” Natasha smiled and felt peaceful inside. She was grateful too. She thought about how small choices, like sitting with someone alone or inviting them to play, can make a big difference.
Sometimes we may not understand why someone acts differently. But we can always choose kindness. When we are patient and loving, we help others feel seen and loved. Jesus teaches us to love one another. Small acts of kindness can grow into big blessings for our friends, families, and even ourselves.
Natasha went to bed that night thinking about the fun she had and the happiness she felt in her heart. She whispered a prayer, thanking Heavenly Father for helping her be a kind friend.
